There's a pressing issue bothering me and I have to let it out.
Disclaimer: I am not in any way trying to insult or criticise other religions. And I'm not a qualified person of any sort to advice anyone about this, so i apologise for my shortcomings.
When someone asks you, "Hey, what is your religion ?" What do you answer ? Well for me, my religion is Islam and I am Muslim. To have been able to tell someone that you are a Muslim, just shows that you are not embarassed of it and you are proud to be one. So being a Muslim is one thing, born a Muslim is another, so how do you be a Muslim ?
I'm sure for all the Muslims out there, you must be somehow familiar with something called The Five Pillars of Islam. I'm not gonna be Wikipedia and state the details but I'll give you the basic idea.
1. Shahadah
2. Salat (Islamic prayer)
3. Sawm (fasting)
4. Zakat
5. Hajj
Why do we Muslims need to always profess the shahadah everyday five times a day at least ? Do you realise that we are required to say the shahadah at least 9 times a day if we were to perform our five daily prayers ? Once during our first prayer, Fajr, twice in our second prayer, Dhuhr, twice in our third prayer, Asr, twice in our fourth prayer, Maghrib, and twice again in our last prayer, Isya'. From what i know, this is to always ensure that we are still considered Muslims and that we are still aware that we are Muslims, in case anything we did during the day might have gone against the laws of Islam. It is a requirement as it is a declaration of our faith to Allah. And that is also why, when we Muslims are at the brink of death, taking our last few breaths, we are always asked, forced, screamed at, repeatedly told to recite the shahadah to ensure that we die as a Muslim.
Prayers are compulsory in Islam. But sadly and surpisingly, many of whom i know, do not perform this basic act that is a vital requirement in Islam. So if you're a Muslim, do you pray ? No ? Then may i ask, why do you call yourself a Muslim ? Because I am born as one. So what is Islam then ? A religion. Why do you have a religion ? Because i have faith in it. So are you trying to tell me that you have faith in being called a Muslim but not living as one ? No. So where's your faith then if it's not in Islam ? In myself. How do you even have faith inyourself when you don't even have faith in the One who created you ?
Sorry if the conversation above is a little retarded, I made that up.
I am just furious at my fellow Muslim friends who claim to be Muslims but don't perform their prayers. Yet, they fast during the fasting month, which is Ramadhan. I mean if they were to know, fasting is one of the five basic acts in Islam, and so is praying. It's pointless for me to relate them to a story about the used-to-be 50 prayers a day because if they can't even make themselves to perform just five prayers daily, why would they care about fifty ?
